Kevin Zegers started acting in TV commercials from the age of six and started modeling in London. He is best known for his portrayal of Josh Framm in the Airbud movies, and for a part in the TV series Gossip Girl. He is known for acting in horror films, and has starred in Wrong Turn, Dawn of the Dead, and many others. Zegers made his film debut at the age of seven opposite Michael J. Fox in Life with Mikey and landed a minor role, the following year in the John Carpenter horror, In The Mouth of Madness. He also guest appeared in the TV series, The X-Files, and had parts in TV series like The Magic School Bus, Traders, and Goosebumps. In 1997, Zegers landed the lead in Air Bud, a movie about a dog who plays sports, and after the movie was franchised, Zegers made three Air Bud sequels.
His earlier films include A Call to Remember, Shadow Builder, Treasure Island, and It Came From The Sky. He then started getting leading roles in Komodo and Four Days. He followed the success of the Air Bud movies with a similar movie called MPV: Most Valuable Primate, about a chimpanzee that plays football. From 2001, Zegers landed major and supporting roles in various movies including Sex, Lies, and Obsession, Fear of the Dark, Virginia’s Run, Wrong Turn, The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie, Dawn of the Dead, and The Hollow.
His first meaty role came in the 2005 independent feature, Transamerica, which received Academy Award nominations. The story revolves around a transsexual woman, Bree (played by Felicity Huffman) who journeys across America with her long lost son, Toby (played by Kevin Zegers). Huffman won the Golden Globe for her performance, and Zegers won the Chopard Trophy for Male Revelation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006.
After his success in Transamerica, Kevin Zegers landed the lead in It’s A Boy Girl Thing, a similar themed movie to Freaky Friday. He got a supporting role in Zoom, and then the opportunity to work with a group of top Hollywood stars in The Jane Austen Book Club. He played the part of Trey and acted opposite Kathy Baker, Amy Brenneman, Emily Blunt, and Maggie Grace. Kevin Zegers was still acting in TV series while filming his movies, and landed parts in popular shows including Smallville, House M.D., and a recurring role in Titans.
From 2007, Zegers took on leading and supporting roles in Normal, The Stone Angel, Gardens of the Night, The Narrows, Fifty Dead Men Walking, The Perfect Age of Rock ‘n Roll, and Frozen. In 2011, he starred opposite Hilary Duff, in The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, which was an actual account of the notorious couple’s lives and not a remake of the 1967 film. Aside from acting and modeling Kevin Zegers, performed on the soundtrack of It’s A Boy Girl Thing in 2006.
